sammichOct 24, 05:19 AMHaven't seen this mentioned in a while...

If they do release the new MBP's tomorrow, what is the chance that Apple's skunkworks will be working for a readyboost-like feature? It'll help us guys who can't wait until March/April for Santa Rosa, stick in a CF card reader into the MBP and a 2gb+ card and presto (could work quite well with the new hard sleep feature).

treblahJul 18, 01:44 AMI'm sufficiently excited. Here's hoping for higher quality (than the current TV shows) and Netflix-esque pricing.

Start "TS isn't accurate/only for the US" whining in 3, 2, 1…

If I'm going to spend all that time downloading a movie, I should at least be able to keep it. Bah.

You've never streamed a Quicktime movie? You don't have to wait for it to end before you start watching it, unless of course you were going to watch it on an iPod…

gorgeousninjaApr 20, 09:15 AMI'll be darned! This is the first post this guy has made in months that hasn't annoyed me! This is a good sign!

+1 (though not convinced it will last);)

netdogAug 25, 06:38 AMI don't think we are going to see Core Duos in Apples for much longer, though it is possible that the base Mini will offer a Core Duo, and the better model a Core 2 Duo.

Still, I think it much more likely that with this revision, both Minis will sport Core 2 Duos, probably Meroms to keep them quiet and lower-powered, and will feature the 965 graphics chipset which frankly is a very nice and inexpenisve graphics solution.

What I am really hoping is that there will be an add-on base module in a similar form factor to turn any Mini into a full-blown HD/Audio media centre. Now that could really be exciting. While Tivos and Sky+ boxes are welcome in my home, we are just aching for someone to really rethink the entire home media experience. I'd love to see Apple take a shot at that.

SpoonyApr 26, 02:07 PMapple created a storefront they called "app store"

amazon creates a store front that does the same t hing called the "appstore"

apple wins in this situation.

ding ding ding. I agree.

The store is called the App Store. You can't copy someones store name.

I can't call my store Target or Walmart. The names are already taken and famous. It's like cyber squatting on Madonna.com. you can't b/c madonna is already mega famous. She could just take it from you.

McDonalds can't sue Burger King for the name b/c they are way different but sell similar products.

If Burger Kind called their Store Mcdonalds but put in a lowercase D now I think McDonalds would and should sue the crap out of them.

Reminds me of coming to america. they've got the Big Mac, We've got the big Mic.

FreeStateMar 23, 03:00 PMThe App has been pulled because it is not in compliance with developer guidelines.

Apple spokesman Tom Neumayr said Wednesday:

We removed the Exodus International app from the App Store because it violates our developer guidelines by being offensive to large groups of people.

Stridder44Nov 28, 11:55 AMFor all those people talking about XBox let's not forget one major thing about it. It took off because of Halo. What you may not know is that Halo was originally a mac game from a mac developer that MS bought in 2000. Read up on it to tell your MS fanboi friends here.

Without Apple gaming there probably would be no XBox today.

Wow! That was new to me! The more you know I guess..

fabian9May 2, 04:43 PMThis concept might seem alien to a lot of MacRumours users, but being a 'switcher', the method of deleting any app on OS X currently seems very ad hoc. I've been a mac user now for about 4 years and yet the idea of having to delete an app by dragging it to the trash seems very... strange. You never know if you've deleted ALL of that program.

Microsoft have managed to get one thing right in Windows. A specific tool (Add/Remove Programs) to delete a program. That's something that I genuinely feel is lacking in OS X and this idea of clicking and holding in LaunchPad makes sense. It's imple enough: most users who own an iPhone will have no trouble in adopting this method. And what's more, it makes it instantly accessible to anyone who uses a mac. In addition, it goes a step further than Microsoft. It avoids making more novice users from having to delve in to a complex window of settings. A step in the right direction? I think so!

So personally, I think this is a very simple yet very effective change to make to OS X and should be a welcome sign of the things to come in Lion!

No, Microsoft have not got it right. There should be no need for a specific tool to uninstall applications. applications should be self-contained and be deletable with the press of a button…

Many applications work this way on Mac, some developers still put related files into various other locations though unfortunately...

LeeTomMar 22, 04:11 PMOctober 23rd, 2011 is the iPod's 10th birthday. I bet they will release a version this fall to commemorate it, if not a special edition of some kind. Maybe they'll let Jony do what he did with the 20th anniversary macintosh and make an $8,000 iPod with an OLED display and graphine processor just because they can.

briantologyFeb 23, 09:45 PMNice and simple. That's what I really should do is arm mount the display and MacBook... *ponders this* Can you still get to the optical drive in the MBP?

Edit: I'm looking at Amazon right now, do you have to have two arms for the way you have everything mounted? I'm thinking that the answer is yes.

Thanks :]

The optical drive on my model is in the front, so it's blocked by a "flap" that keeps the laptop from falling off. I suppose you could just lift the machine up for a moment to insert a disc though. If it's one of the newer MBPs (or any model MacBook) and the drive is on the side, you should have easy access.

And yes, it's two separate arms, as per the links.

PanameraOct 22, 06:54 PMI just bought this case made by Init; it's cheap and works great. It costs about $25 (bought in-store at Best Buy) and came with 2 cases, the white one in the pic and a black one; both cases are soft. (I'll post more pics if requested)

iMeowbotAug 6, 09:13 PMAnyone believe that it could actually be released today...like for consumer consumption?
I hope not!

It would be kind of nice if ISVs could have a chance to make sure their stuff runs properly under the new release.

Apple will also want there to be a reason for people to pay for upgrades, and third party software that uses new features would be a big part of that.

AppliedVisualNov 18, 02:28 PMAs I mentioned before about the lower spec FB-DIMMs only using one of the onboard buffers to improve latency (single gate / single rank), there are quite a few of these out there - especially in the 512MB capacity!

Here's the technical overview from Intel (http://www.intel.com/technology/magazine/computing/Fully-buffered-DIMM-0305.htm).

Anandtech had this little tidbit (http://www.anandtech.com/mac/showdoc.aspx?i=2832&p=1) about single vs. dual rank modules.

While single rank FB-DIMMs are somewhat discouraged, they are quite common on the market. Kingston ships single rank FB-DIMM parts that are nearly 30% cheaper than their dual rank parts. Some of their products are labeled as such, some aren't and who knows what you're getting when buying from a third-party vendor without specifically comparing part numbers, etc.. I am under the impression that the 512MB (as well as the 1 and 2 GB) modules from Apple are all dual rank. However, how do we tell for sure about modules from the cheaper vendors like 1-800-4MEMORY, or RAM4LESS, etc.. I guess we can try to ask for more detailed specs, but I've tried that before from RAM4LESS and all I could get is that "our modules are guaranteed compatible..."

rosalindavenueJul 18, 06:45 AMI don't think the time is right for online digital movie rentals. Even with a relatively fast broadband service, it still is going to take a fair amount of time to download the file. If the file only plays once, or just for a day, or a few days it's just not worth the effort, IMO.

I agree with respect to downloads-- but I think this is going to be streaming. Did you ever try the frontrow movie trailers? (before Apple let it go dead in January or so-- it was a beta test, I'm sure) Even with a hacked version on my ibook, the trailers were instantaneous and high quality. I think that's how these are going to be rented-- you'll have either a period of time you can stream (preferable) or a number of times you can stream before losing the rights.

EDIT: Poster below me is 100% correct-- this is about ipods; they'll have to sell downloads for those and they wont be anything like DVD quality.

Apple OCApr 24, 01:11 PMIt's amazing that a file that is stored locally (iDevices and iTunes) is causing so much uproar. Lolz! If you have access to my iDevices then I should be more worried than you having access to this location cache. Get a clue people.

Here is a thought ... suppose when the police pull you over and figure they can wrap up a case by using the info they download from your phone and the make of car you are driving.

Defense lawyers are not cheap

roadblocApr 1, 10:13 AMGuess why they are the only two removable apps?

Were them two apps downloaded via the Mac App Store by any chance?

nagrommeSep 6, 06:12 PMDoes anyone else think that Apple really really needs a rental model for the movie store? I'm against it with music but it's not the same a movies. I don't want my harddrive full of these things. I would be nice to rent one for much less, watch it and delete it. I don't see it being very successful if it is for purchase only.
Yes. I want rentals. I almost never want to see the same movie again, so I won't want to store it.

Rentals are what I would use. At a sufficiently low price, of course. $2 for close to DVD quality would be OK. (I'm less picky about rental quality than purchase quality.)

phlavorApr 19, 01:35 PMI just hope that the SSD option is more affordable. For me the top chip on the 27inch is a no-brainer but the SSD turns a $2200 computer into a $2950 computer. Hell, in San Francisco I have to tack 9.5% tax on that too.

captmattMar 25, 03:56 PMOh man---I got the iPad to get the kids off the TV. Now I'm going to have to get another TV!

gkarrisMar 25, 09:58 PMI find it frustrating that Firemint continues to hype this game and talk innovation when the game does not even work as advertised today, supporting both original and second iPad's. Crash and burn. How about a news release on the improvements they will be making to stop the crashing rather than this pathetic self promoting fallacy.

It's known that the first iPad is Apple's "experiment"...

Anything serious, like hardcore gaming, will require an A5 based machine.

AFA game consoles, Apple crashed and burned with their last console. If they do anything, it'll be only on their mobile devices and not bother competing with MS/Sony/Nintendo on the console front.

With mobile gaming, there's really only Sony and Nintendo, so there's room for Apple... ;)

skinniezinhoNov 27, 07:38 AMWhere did you buy that watch and for how much? I really like it :o

I bought it on a friend's [email protected] but it is available @50eur on almost every watch store.
Check it here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PtSP6Qj8PDk).

paul4339Apr 26, 01:42 PMAmazon could have just used "AppShop" to avoid this issue, but no, of course not.

they should use Amazon App Jungle: an un-curated mess. ;)
